Application Guidelines for Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship for 2027
(Research and Undergraduate Students)
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarships to distinguished international students who wish to study at Japanese universities.The Embassy of Japan in the State of Kuwait will receive applications for Research and Undergraduate students as below.
【Important Notice】
- Only holders of Kuwaiti citizenship can apply at the Embassy of Japan in the State of Kuwait. (Holders of other citizenships should contact the Japanese diplomatic mission in their respective countries).
- Applicants must secure an appointment in advance and submit all the required documents by hand to the Embassy of Japan in the State of Kuwait.

Guidelines Brief:
- Study begins in April, September or October 2027.
- Applicants’ date of birth must be on or after April 2, 1992.
- Applicants must choose a major field of study related to their previous university study.
- Applicants must have good command of English language, and willing to learn Japanese language.
- Application period is from Sunday, May 3rd, 2026 until Thursday, June 11th, 2026 at 03:00 P.M. Incomplete or late applications will NOT be considered at all.
- Only successful applicants will be notified of the document screening result later by email/phone.
- Applicants who pass the document screening phase will be qualified to the written examination phase in late June 2026. Examinees will be notified of the result few days after the examination by email/phone.
- Applicants who pass the written examination phase will be interviewed in early July 2026. Interviewees will be notified of the result few days after the interview by email/phone.
- Applicants who pass the examination and interview phases will be recommended to MEXT, and MEXT will conduct the second screening. The final result will be announced sometime around February 2027.

Guidelines Brief:
- Study begins in April 2027.
- Applicants must be born on or after April 2, 2002.
- Applicants must have completed 12 academic years, and obtained distinguished academic scores for the last three years.
- Applicants must have good command of English language, and willing to learn Japanese language.
- Application period is from Sunday, May 3rd, 2026 until Thursday, June 11th, 2026 at 03:00 P.M. Incomplete or late applications will NOT be considered at all.
- Only successful applicants will be notified of the document screening result later by email/phone.
- Applicants who pass the document screening phase will be qualified to the written examination phase in late June 2026. Examinees will be notified of the result few days after the examination by email/phone.
- Applicants who pass the written examination phase will be interviewed in early July 2026. Interviewees will be notified of the result few days after the interview by email/phone.
- Applicants who pass the examination and interview phases will be recommended to MEXT, and MEXT will conduct the second screening. The final result will be announced sometime around January 2027.
