Application Guidelines for Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship for 2026 (Research Students and Undergraduate Students)
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarships to distinguished international students who wish to study at Japanese universities.
The Embassy of Japan in the State of Kuwait will receive applications for Research and Undergraduate students as below.

Only Kuwaiti citizens can apply through the Embassy of Japan in the State of Kuwait. (Those who hold other citizenships should contact the Japanese Embassy in their respective countries).

Guidelines Brief:
- Study begins in April, September or October 2026.
- Applicants’ date of birth must be on or after April 2, 1991.
- Applicants must have enough academic background.
- Applicants must choose a major field of study related to their previous university study.
- Applicants must have a good command of English, and willing to learn Japanese language.
- Applicants must read the guidelines carefully, secure an appointment in advance and submit all the required documents by hand to the Embassy of Japan in the State of Kuwait.
- Application period is from Thursday, May 1st, 2025 until Thursday, June 12th, 2025 at 03:00 P.M. Incomplete or late applications will NOT be considered at all.
- Only successful applicants will be notified of the document screening result later by email/phone.
- Applicants who pass the document screening phase will be qualified to the written examination phase in late June 2025. Examinees will be notified of the result few days after the examination by email/phone.
- Applicants who pass the written examination phase will have an interview early July 2025. Interviewees will be notified of the result few days after the interview by email/phone.
- Applicants who pass the examination and interview phases will be recommended to MEXT, and MEXT will conduct the second screening. The final result will be announced sometime around February 2026.

- Study begins in April 2026.

- Applicants must have completed 12 academic years, and obtained distinguished academic scores for the last three years.
- Applicants must have a good command of English, and willing to learn Japanese language.
- Applicants must read the guidelines carefully, secure an appointment in advance and submit all the required documents by hand to the Embassy of Japan in the State of Kuwait.
