Happy New Year everyone!

I am Kenichiro Mukai, the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to the State of Kuwait. It has been more than a month since I arrived here last November 26th. On December 24, I presented my credentials as Ambassador of Japan to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah. From here, I will do my utmost to engage in various diplomatic activities.

Although it is still early in my time here, I would like to share with you a few of the things I found attractive about Kuwait.
1️⃣ Kuwait is a very open society and has a culture that truly enjoys interacting with foreigners.
2️⃣ With a history of prosperity from dhow ships and maritime trade, Kuwait is alive with an international and global perspective.
3️⃣ The country has excellent business acumen, values loyalty and humanity, and trusts Japanese brands. We feel that Kuwaiti people are especially interested in Japanese food culture, artisanal techniques, animation, and the Japanese spirit and culture.

We would like to further deepen exchanges between the people of Kuwait and the Japanese people. As a hub of the Middle East region, we will support the emergence of new businesses and projects from both countries.

In 2025, Japan will host the Osaka-Kansai Expo. And June 19 is “Kuwait Day”. We would like to take advantage of this precious opportunity to promote specific projects in the areas of decarbonization, food safety, medical cooperation, energy, and cultural exchange.

There will, of course, be many developments in the global situation this year. However, it is Japan's mission to strive for cooperation and harmony through dialogue and diplomatic efforts. Kuwait is also a country with a spirit of “harmony,” “tolerance,” and “moderation,” and I feel that Kuwait can play an important role in the turbulent Middle East. This year, Kuwait will chair the 45th session of GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council), and I hope that Japan will deepen its cooperation with Kuwait and contribute to stability in the Middle East and world peace.

Kuwait is also an important energy provider to Japan and the third largest supplier of crude oil. We will continue to support the stable supply of energy resources and environmentally friendly oil development. Above all, we will continue to cherish and nurture our friendship with Kuwait.

Our gratitude for the generous support we received after the Great East Japan Earthquake and the Noto Peninsula Earthquake is deeply engraved in the hearts of the Japanese people. Kuwait is truly "an irreplaceable friend in times of need."

With your support, we hope to make the year 2025 even stronger and more fruitful for the ties between Japan and Kuwait.
