Japanese Government Scholarship (MEXT) 2021 Application Guideline (for Research Students and Undergraduates)
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarships to distinguished international students who wish to study at Japanese universities.
The Embassy of Japan in Kuwait will accept applications for Research Students and Undergraduates as below.

The Embassy of Japan in Kuwait will accept applications for Research Students and Undergraduates as below.
【Important Notice】
- If the situation is not suitable for the selection due to COVID-19 pandemic, the entire selection schedule may be cancelled.
- Applicants must have Kuwaiti nationality (Those who have other nationality should contact Japanese Embassy in their respective countries).
[Overview of the Scholarship for Research Students]
- Study begins on September / October 2021.
- Applicants ' date of birth must be on or after April 2, 1986.
- Applicant must have enough academic background (in accordance with the attached file).
- Applicant must choose a major field of study related to his/her previous university study.
- Applicant must have a good command of English and willing to learn Japanese language.
- Applicants must read the guideline carefully and send all the required documents only by email (soft copy) to the Embassy.All documents must be in PDF format and total file size must be less than 10 MB (No need to send copies).
- Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.
- Late application will NOT be considered.
- Embassy will start receiving application from September 10, 2020 (Thursday).
- Deadline of receiving applications is November 3, 2020 (Tuesday). The application screening result will be announced by email/phone at the beginning of November.
- Applicants who pass the application screening will have the written examinations at the beginning of November.The result will be announced in a few days after the examinations by email/phone.
- Applicants who pass the examination will have an interview at the beginning of November. The result will be announced in a few days after the interview by email/phone.
- Applicants pass the examination and interview will be recommended to MEXT, and MEXT will conduct the second screening. The final result will be announced sometime around June 2021.
[Overview of the Scholarship Undergraduates]
- Study begins on April or September / October 2021.
- Applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1996.
- Applicants must have completed a 12 academic years, and obtained distinguished transcripts for the last three years.
- Applicants must have a good command of English and willing to learn Japanese language.
- Applicants must read the guideline carefully and send all the required documents only by email (soft copy) to the Embassy.All documents must be in PDF format and total file size must be less than 10 MB (No need to send copies).
- Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.
- Late application will NOT be considered.
- Embassy will start receiving application from September 10, 2020 (Thursday).
